Iratus: Lord of the Dead’s nefarious dungeon crawling draws inspiration from the gameplay of Darkest Dungeon and the sardonic tone of Dungeon Keeper. In it you are an evil necromancer who gains great pleasure in his craft – which comprises slaying puny humans and using their flesh and bones to summon more minions.
Your aim in Iratus: Lord of the Dead is to escape from the dungeons you have been trapped in for an eternity. You start with a handful of minions, but can summon more with the loot you earn from the spoils of battle. There are different grades of crafting items, with you able to use stronger crafting items to create stronger minions.
As you explore the procedurally generated dungeons you’ll take part in tactical turn based battles, where your use of buffs, debuffs, spells and attacks can mean the difference between life and death. You’ll have to look after your minions too – Iratus: Lord of the Dead features permadeath, so when they’re gone, they’re gone.
The Kickstarter demo build of Iratus: Lord of the Dead features a sizeable chunk of gameplay, with a tutorial dungeon and a starter dungeon to battle your way through. Even in the current stage of development it’s a very polished experience. It really impresses with it’s high quality artwork, dark sense of humor and deeply strategic gameplay. It’s an addictive game with challenging high stakes battles and a great sense of atmosphere. Highly recommended.
Note: Once you complete the tutorial dungeon you’ll be sent back to the main menu, but you’ll then be able to access the first main dungeon by selecting ‘New Game’.
